Finding a Persian, Farsi-Speaking Therapist in Toronto: Why Cultural Fit Matters

When someone reaches out to me and the first thing they say is "I've been looking for a Persian therapist," or "I just want to be able to speak Farsi in session," I know exactly what they're really asking for. It isn't only about language. It's about being understood without having to translate yourself first.
So much can get lost in translation — and I don't only mean words. When you do the deepest emotional work of your life in your second or third language, a quiet extra step happens each time you speak: you feel something in one language, then reach for it in another. The feeling arrives before the vocabulary does, and sometimes the closest word simply isn't close enough.
For many of the people I work with, there's also a whole world of context that usually needs explaining. The weight of family expectations. The particular ache of living between cultures — of being "too much" of one place and "not enough" of another. The experience of immigration, and everything you carried with you and everything you left behind. When your therapist already understands that landscape, you get to spend your energy on healing rather than on setting the scene.
This is true well beyond any one culture. Cultural fit matters for anyone who has ever felt like an outsider in a room — including my LGBTQ+ clients, who deserve a space where their identity is simply a fact of who they are, never something to explain, defend, or educate anyone about. Affirming therapy means you walk in already accepted.
None of this means you have to be Persian, or speak Farsi, to work with me — most of my work happens in English, and it's just as full and just as real. But for those who want it, that option is here. I offer sessions in English, Farsi (Persian), and Italian, and I bring my own between-cultures history into the room with me.
As a Registered Psychotherapist with CRPO and an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist with CACFT, I work with individuals and couples on trauma, attachment, relationships, and identity. If you've been searching for someone who gets the context you're living inside, I'd love to hear from you. You can reach out through my site to book a consultation and see whether we're a good fit.
